Taxidermy – Victorian wall dome with an extinct London Fancy Canary

£ 875

Circa 1880. Unlabelled, but very much in the manner of Peter Spicer of Leamington Spa, with well modelled silk leaves, a simple graduated water colour backdrop, and remarkably still retaining its original gilt paper seal.
London fancy canary, a breed of canary that was created in captivity and went extinct. Over the last 10 years of so dedicated breeders across the world have joined together and recreated this type of colour canary. Derived from selective breeding of the lizard canary mainly. Still classed as a rare breed.
